Who We Are:
EMS Services at Southwest General Health Center
It has been the privilege of Southwest General Health Center to provide Medical Direction to our area Fire Departments and communities for the last 25 years. Allowing us to be a part of the ever changing and evolving emergency medical needs of our communities has been a rewarding process. The support The EMS Services Department receives from our city administrators, fire departments, as well as Health Center Administration allows for quality education and hands on practical experience. Proving ongoing education and training both in the field as well as at the Health Center has afforded valuable learning experiences for EMT’s.
The quality care our patients receive year after year is attributed to many dedicated individuals. First, our Medical Director for the last 25 years has been James J. Rybak MD, Director of Emergency Medical Services. His vision and wisdom have guided us through many years of change. Philip Coverdale MD, Director of The Emergency Department, lends many hours to evaluate and oversee daily EMS operations. The Fire Chiefs united to organize the Southwest Area Fire and Emergency Services Committee (S.A.F.E.S) 25 years ago which has become one of our greatest assets. Monthly meetings with S.A.F.E.S. and Health Center Administration chart the overall direction for EMS operations. An EMT representative from each department also meets on a monthly basis to evaluate patient care, protocols, new equipment and procedures. The backbone of our system lies with the many EMT’s who daily provide excellent, dedicated patient care to those who call upon them. These pre- hospital care providers have chosen a life’s career to help those in need. We find pride and satisfaction in providing quality care to those who have entrusted their lives to us.
This website is for our area firefighters and EMT’s as an educational and informational tool.
