Surgical Services

Southwest General Health Center offers a full range of surgical services. Surgeons on the Medical Staff perform more than 18,600 procedures a year, including open-heart surgery, neurological surgery, orthopedic cases and care of the injured patient by the Trauma Service.

Opened in 1999, the Surgery Pavilion features 16 state-of-the-art surgical suites, for both inpatient and outpatient procedures, and two minor recovery rooms. For patient convenience, Preadmission Testing (PAT) and Outpatient Testing are both housed in the Pavilion. Private rooms in the pre-anesthesia area allow patients and their families to remain together until surgery, thereby reducing anxiety.

The surgical waiting area focuses on family needs and includes comfortable furniture, reading and television viewing areas and computer hook-ups. Families are given pagers so that they can be paged when the surgeon is ready to see them. Five consultation rooms provide privacy for families speaking with surgeons.

For optimal post-surgical patient care, the Surgery Pavilion is located on the same floor as the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). A Pathology Lab also is located in the Surgery Pavilion, allowing pathologists to analyze specimens and provide immediate consultation with surgeons in the surgical suites.
